Job Name: Tyson’s Central Building F
Location: Tyson’s Corner, Virginia
Scope of Work: Design of Segmental Retaining Wall
Date Completed: April 2019
General Contractor: HOAR Construction
Wall Installer: AMA Construction
As part of the brand new 32 story mixed-use Tyson’s Central Building “F” project, a segmental retaining wall was needed in front of the site to accommodate a new sidewalk as well as a VDOT right of way widening of Route 7 for a new exit. While not large in scale, ERS faced challenges in the design of this wall as two large WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority) vaults are located directly behind the wall in the reinforced zone and upon excavation previously unrecognized concrete duct banks and utility boxes were uncovered. Working closely with AMA Construction, ERS was able as make design adjustments during construction of the wall to ensure a practical and cost effective solution while still delivering a quality wall design.
